How much has natural stone gone up in price
According to the natural stone, the rise in price began with the beginning of the pandemic. As a wholesale seller, I will immediately indicate that prices for natural stone remained unchanged for 4 years before the pandemic!
- Closing of borders in March 2020. Since stone mining is not an easy matter, the local population of the Rostov region and Krasnodar Krai are not ready for such hard work for the level of payment that is included in the price of the stone. Mostly Asians from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Ukrainians from the LPR and DPR work.
- The start of sales of the stone was delayed for a month due to the general stress of quarantine. Instead of the middle of March - the end of April.
- In May 2020, the remnants of the stone from 2019 were running out and the stone rose in price by +10%.
- At the end of June 2020, demand increased due to urban residents who moved to dachas in conditions of self-isolation +10%
- August 2020, there is not enough stone for dealer retail outlets - queues are forming for the stone not yet mined. +10%
- The new season is 2021, the borders are open, but you need 2 weeks of travel to enter (and this is accommodation at your own expense in a special hotel) there and back. And few people understand where the quarantine situation will change further. Workers enter very little, and those who arrived do not agree to work for the previous payment.
- April 2021. stone miners set general increased prices so as not to dump each other +10%.
- June 2021, many managed to buy plots and began to settle them, the demand for stone increased by +10%.
- August 2021, the price of fuel increased, tariffs on toll roads in the Moscow region were raised (earlier at night there was a preferential fee for trucks), the flow of vegetables and melons from the south began +10% to the price of transport costs.
From my experience, I will say that previously natural stone was underestimated. And the current price equaled it with other building materials. For example, the cost of gray-green sandstone for cladding in September 2021 is 172 rubles/m2, and for paving 288 rubles/m2.
I am often asked if the price will decrease if the pandemic suddenly ends. No! Moreover, following the rise in the cost of similar building materials made of concrete, it is likely to continue to increase.
